Jackie Canna

Jackie Canna, a Signature Member of Rhode Island Watercolor Society, has been working in watercolor since 1991. Her paintings have received many awards and are displayed in galleries and private collections throughout New England.Jackie always has a camera in hand and uses photography as a reference in her paintings.

Her process starts with an expressive value study, with the goal of using the advantage of the quickness in application of watercolor to achieve a delicate effect of a brilliance of color in her subject. Her unique style allows her to achieve an immediate expression of a visual experience.

In addition to illustrating children’s books and creating cartoons for a major magazine, Jackie designs graphics for CafePress.com, Peakbaseball Performance Training, Playball Sports and numerous other businesses. Jackie lives in Mansfield, Massachusetts with her husband and two sons, and currently serves on the RIWS board of directors.

 

  • Light captures my eye … the way light hits an object, the contrast of light and dark. There is nothing that captures the luminosity of light better than watercolor.
  • Design intrigues me … the contour of the shapes, the patterns of light and dark. I marvel at brilliantly designed paintings.
  • In my watercolors, captivating light and strong design are the start. Portraying a feeling in the final painting is my goal.
  • The best part is … every time I put paintbrush to paper, I realize why I love to paint.
